Top tips
- Listen, reflect and be humble but at the same time stand up for what you believe in – persuade not push.
- When communicating try to understand the audience and make what you say interesting to them, rather than trying to convey every minute detail.
- If you want people to listen to you, make sure you have clear messages wrapped into a story, pause to make the message land, and then re-emphasize – Barak Obama does this well, look online to find some of his storytelling.
- To be an inclusive leader, you need to know your biases and work on them to remain objective.
- Networks are of critical importance, if you’re uncomfortable with networking don’t worry everyone is – just ask simple questions and let the other person talk.
